GRACE

Grace is unmerited favor. It is God's free action for the benefit of His people. It is different than Justice and Mercy. Justice is getting what we deserve. Mercy is not getting what we deserve. Grace is getting what we do not deserve. In grace we get eternal life, something that, quite obviously, we do not deserve. But because of God's love and kindness manifested in Jesus on the Cross, we receive the great blessing of redemption. Grace is G od's R iches A t C hrist's E xpense. Grace rules out all human merit. It is the product of God that is given by God, because of who He is not because of who we are. It is the means of our salvation (Eph. 2:8-9). We are no longer under the Law, but under grace (Rom. 6:14). (See 1Cor. 15:11; Rom 5:2; 15-20; 2Cor. 12:9; and 2 Cor. 9:8).

Friends

In our church, there's a widower and a widow both aged, shut-in, quite alone, and on the prayer list at our church. And they both have a true friend. The widower, who loves classical music, looks forward to alternate Tuesdays because a young man comes with a couple of tapes and spends the evening visiting, and they enjoy the music together. The widow, who is diabetic and has very limited income, receives visits regularly from a woman who is very kind to her. Recently she bought her a blood-testing device that greatly helps her control her diabetes. It's something the diabetic woman could not afford to buy for herself. Both the widower and the widow are fortunate to have at least one person who really cares about them. There are many people who are friendless, and no one ever visits them. There's a tragic shortage of those who will take time to be a friend... Today, let's pray that God will help us to be a friend to someone in need...

In the eyes of God

A friend of mine who attended a class reunion vows he'll never go to another. He says he felt terribly worthless and unsuccessful. Some former classmates were doctors, lawyers, or dentists. Others owned thriving business. A few held high offices in large corporations. Almost everybody talked about brilliant athletic children. My friend, on the other hand, holds an ordinary job. His children are not getting all A's or excelling in athletics. I told him that his feeling of worthlessness stemmed from measuring his value by the wrong standards. God doesn't think more or less of us based on our job, our bank account, our home, or the academic success of our offspring. Our worth and dignity are rooted in the fact that God created us and that His Son died for us. What's important to Him is our degree of trust and our service done for His sake. Jesus said that those who follow Him, regardless of their status, will be rewarded for their faith and commitment. And when God gives o...

Kids are like sponges

Being a working Mom and out most of the time, I'm worried about what my children are absorbing at home. What are they getting from watching television, and as they listen to conversations, what kind of words and attitudes are being taken in. Children are like sponges! They soak up attitudes and ideas with which they come in contact. We must be very careful, therefore about what is allowed to fill their minds. When children becomes adults, they will give out what they have taken in during their formative and impressionable years. Let's make sure that those little "sponges" in our homes soak up what is pure, wholesome, and uplifting. Deuteronomy 11:19 says, "You shall teach them to your children...when you lie down, and when you rise up."

My Prayer

Dear Lord, I thank You for this day. I thank You for my being able to see and to hear this morning. I'm blessed because You are a forgiving God and an understanding God. You have done so much for me and You keep on blessing me. Forgive me this day for everything I have done, said or thought that was not pleasing to you. I ask now for Your forgiveness. Please keep me safe from all danger and harm. Help me to start this day with a new attitude and plenty of gratitude. Let me make the best of each and every day to clear my mind so that I can hear from You. Please broaden my mind that I can accept all things. Let me not whine and whimper over things I have no control over. And It's the best response when I'm pushed beyond my limits. I know that when I can't pray, You listen to my heart. Continue to use me to do Your will. Continue to bless me that I may be a blessing to others. Keep me strong that I may help the weak... Keep me uplifted that I may have words of encouragemen...
